What lies between us and holds us together?
Each year, a theme for the Almost Summer Festival emerges, pulling an invisible thread throughout all the performances. This time, the works presented all share a common focus on the question of the nature of the ties that unite us. The connections we have with our friends, our families, whether given or created. What connects bodies and generations, what attracts us, heals us, repulses us, or destroys us, what makes us grow or obstructs us, what makes us be together?
Arts centre BUDA is part of international networks of artistic institutions, each working individually and together to support contemporary creation and implement fair practices. At the same time, we support a network of artists working in the performing arts, including dance, performance, and theater, who come to develop their projects during a residency. They write, research, dance and rehearse. Sometimes alone, sometimes surrounded by their teams of performers, musicians, costume designers, lighting designers, set designers, and dramaturges.
It is at the intersection of all these meetings, collaborations, support requests, and artistic creation sharing that the Almost Summer festival is built, offering the public a range of new and stimulating performances, just before summer kicks off.
Feminist School
During each Almost Summer festival, we open a ‘feminist school’ to discuss issues relating to equal treatment of human beings, taking into account and caring for minorities, and the fight against discrimination. This year, three artists and collectives are inviting you to share their ideas on non-nuclear family structures through lectures, games and discussions, bringing together artists, doctors, criminologists, sociologists and anyone else with an interest in these issues.

The heart of Almost Summer, that’s BK6’s hidden garden. It is the place to relax, catch up with others about the performances, meet artists, and dance under the trees. In the festival café in the garden of Broelkaai 6, you can enjoy a refreshing drink and a fresh veggie meal.
